About Me
I was born in California and raised in Mexico. I come from a blend of Mexican and Belgian heritage, so moving between different languages and cultures has been a constant part of my life. As an energetically sensitive child with a tendency towards sensory and emotional overload, I often turned to songs and stories to make sense of the world around me.
My first loves were singing, writing, and music. Creating layers of harmony that move together through time has always felt like magic. One of my first breakthroughs came when I realized my body had a voice and I could hear it.
I studied a bachelor’s in Music, where I trained as a pianist, composer, and singer. When I entered the world of improvisation and sound healing, a part of me knew I was home. I became fascinated with the voice as a bridge between our conscious mind and unconscious universe. My desire to dive deep into the language of sound led me to study sound healing at the Sound and Consciousness Institute in California and Buddhism at Naropa University. These adventures instilled in me a phenomenological approach to the voice: experience as path.
Ana Cristina Caelen has been working with the voice for over 16 years. A multi-cultural and multi-lingual artist, she has a BA in Music and an MA in Buddhism. Her most notable musical piece to date is ‘Of Roots and Trees,’ written for Mexico’s renowned Cuarteto Aurora in 2011. Her passion for language, music, mysticism, and hearty characters you can sink your teeth into led her to publish Wilding Souls, her debut fantasy novel, in 2022. She also shares her poetry on Substack through her publication Wyrd Incantations.
Throughout my years as a music professor and vocal explorer doing voice release and sound therapy practices with students, I found powerful kernels of wisdom in fantasy literature which complimented my work. What was it about this genre that spoke to me? Fantasy and sound share an extraordinary bond: unique languages that can express all kinds of possibilities.
In essence, I have never been one to follow the norm. I find the creative process incredibly thrilling, and due to my nature, I had to chart my own course. However, attuned to my body as I was, I still noticed a tendency to freeze and shut down.
So in 2020, when mysterious synchronicities and revelations began to transform my life from the inside out, I let them. I followed the threads of intuition and allowed myself to craft a world, a tapestry of voices, and write a trilogy that wove it all together.
Suddenly, the whole spectrum from silence, to sound, to voice, to word came fully alive! My nervous system found its rhythm.
Something new opened up and my body-mind reconfigured as I tapped into more resonance, clarity, and creative power. Life did what life does, and I started to share this language with others. The results were profound, and soon enough, Voice Magic was born. I’m delighted to share it with you today.
